| 畫作賞析 |

本幅畫姿態各異之駿馬百匹，放牧遊息於草原的場面。馬匹們或臥或立、或嬉戲、或覓食，自由舒閑，聚散不一；在具體的表現手法上，郎世寧發揮了西洋畫法中常應用的前重後輕、前實後虛、前大後小等寫景方法，使畫面產生空曠深遠的景界，草木、山水、人物無不寫實精緻。全幅色彩濃麗，構圖繁複，形象逼肖，郎氏擅以中國傳統繪畫技法加入西洋光影透視法及西畫顏料，以顯示中西趣味兼容並蓄的畫面。如畫中馬匹、人物、樹木、土坡皆應用了光的原理，使物象極富立體感；而如松針、樹皮、草葉等的墨線勾勒，石塊土坡的皴擦等仍含有中國傳統手法，即使是馬匹及樹幹上的陰影表現，亦是以中國傳統的渲染方法來完成。此圖繪於雍正六年（1728），堪稱郎氏早期典型代表作品之一。

郎世寧(Giuseppe Castiglione，1688-1766)義大利米蘭人，十九歲時加入天主教耶穌會，後被派至熱諾亞(Genoa)會院，曾為教堂繪製宗教畫。

康熙五十四年(1715)郎氏二十七歲，由葡萄牙傳道部派抵澳門，轉赴廣州北上京師，並由馬國賢(Mattheaus de Baroni Ripa，1682-1745)引見入宮。

郎氏深得清初三代皇帝喜愛擅長人物肖像、花鳥走獸，注重物象解剖結構、光影效果及立體感，曾教導宮廷畫家西方油畫和透視法，多次奉命為皇帝繪製各種御容紀實畫；

而其更大挑戰乃是主持長春園諧奇趣、西洋樓花園區的設計及室內裝飾工程，參與「平定回疆圖」(又名得勝圖)銅版畫監製。

乾隆三十一年(1766)七十八歲高齡的郎氏病逝北京，皇帝賜他侍郎銜，葬於北京阜城門外傳教士公墓。
